After receiving my MFA degree in photography in 1982, I was drawn to going back to the state in which I spent my first twenty-two years. Small, rural towns that I remembered from my early years held a personal interest. In both 1983 and 1985, I ventured into the Appalachian areas of southern Ohio.
Wondering if I would be able to photograph in my hometown of Mansfield, Ohio, I returned to photograph there in 2001 and 2002. This was a new direction in that I returned to familiar territory, which I remembered from my childhood- the parks, the neighboring small towns, and even an old neighbor, Mary, who was still alive and remembered me some fifty years later.
